The Sunday Reset: How to Plan Your Week in 30 Minutes

Monday hits and you're already behind. The week runs you instead of the other way around. Fix that with 30 minutes on Sunday.

The 30-Minute Sunday Reset

Minutes 1-5: Brain Dump

Open a notebook or notes app. Write down everything that's on your mind. Tasks, worries, appointments, things you keep forgetting, stuff you need to buy. Get it all out of your head and onto paper. Don't organize it yet — just dump.

Minutes 5-15: Sort Into Buckets

Go through your dump and put each item into one of three buckets:
  • Must do this week (bills due, deadlines, appointments)
  • Should do this week (errands, tasks you've been putting off)
  • Can wait (everything else — move it to a "later" list and forget about it)
  • Minutes 15-25: The Daily Three

For each day Monday-Friday, pick 3 things from your must-do and should-do lists:
  • One big task (the thing that actually moves the needle)
  • One small task (something you can knock out quickly for a win)
  • One life task (groceries, laundry, calling the dentist — the stuff that keeps life running)
  • Don't overload any day. Three things. If you do all three, it was a good day.

    Minutes 25-30: Prep

  • Check your calendar for the week. Any surprises?
  • Lay out Monday's clothes (sounds small, removes one decision)
  • Check the fridge — do you need to shop?
  • Set one intention for the week: "This week I'm going to [one thing]"
  • Why This Works

Your brain can hold about 4 things in working memory. If you're trying to remember 30 tasks, errands, and appointments, you're constantly anxious because your brain knows it's dropping things. The Sunday reset moves everything from your head to a system. Your brain relaxes because it trusts the system.

    The Honest Bit

You'll skip some Sundays. That's fine. Even doing this twice a month puts you ahead of most people. The weeks you do it, you'll notice the difference immediately.
